Froggy and Doggy watch Bitcoin and Ethereum consolidate on large trading screens, while a shadowy whale looms behind them. The charts show weakening open interest and a heavily long ETH market.

Bitcoin is trading at $83,899, up 6.8% over 30 days and still 33.5% below its $126,200 high. Open interest fell 14.1% over seven days while price rose — the move higher is being carried by spot demand and short covering, not by fresh leverage stacking on top of the trend. The base case is digestion between $82,000 and $87,400, not a breakout and not a breakdown. Ethereum, at $2,678, tells a rougher version of the same story: up on the daily and weekly charts, down on every timeframe shorter than a day, and carrying long positioning at 73.3% of accounts that Bitcoin's 58% doesn't have to answer for.

The short version

  • Base case for both coins: sideways digestion inside the current range, not a resolution either direction, while daily trend measures (ADX 41.8 on BTC, 41.7 on ETH) stay very strong and short-term measures (4h ADX 11.2 and 10.8) stay weak.
  • The level that matters most for BTC: $82,009–$82,210, where the 20-day EMA, a three-touch daily support and a two-touch weekly support all sit within 2% of price.
  • The level that matters most for ETH: $2,553–$2,563, a three-touch support that is also the value-area high on the volume profile.
  • Main risk: Ethereum's 73.3% long skew against $202.7M of net aggressive futures selling over 24 hours — a book leaning one way while the flow leans the other.
  • Invalidation for the base case: a daily close below $77,301 for BTC (the 50-day average) or below $2,553 for ETH (the confluence support) would mean the digestion read is wrong.

Daily trend up, 4-hour trend down

Price sits above both moving averages that matter — the 50-day at $77,301 and the 200-day at $71,301 — with the golden cross confirmed on September 8. The weekly Supertrend is up, flipping only if price gives back to $66,498; the daily Supertrend is up as well, flipping at $78,351. Both are a long way below spot. The disagreement is on the 4-hour chart, where the Supertrend has already flipped down, with the flip level at $85,087 sitting above current price — a short-term downtrend nested inside a daily and weekly uptrend. ADX confirms which timeframe is driving: 41.8 on the daily (very strong, +DI 31.8 against -DI 15.1) against 11.2 on the 4-hour (weak, though +DI 29.6 still outpaces -DI 16.3). The trend is real; the last few days are a pause inside it.

Five reversal candles, no overbought reading yet

Daily RSI is 62.0, Stochastic %K 69.2, CCI 60.4 — all neutral rather than overbought, which leaves room before momentum itself becomes an argument for a pullback. The dissenter is MACD, flagged sell at a level of 2097.4 even though it sits in positive territory, which typically means the histogram has started narrowing. That lines up with the candles: a bearish engulfing one candle ago, another four candles back, two doji in between and a hanging man seven candles ago — five reversal or indecision signals inside the last week, on a chart where the trend indicators are still unambiguously up. The 4-hour RSI at 51.4 is the confirmation: momentum has gone flat on the short timeframe exactly where the candles say it should.
