BTC Holds the Golden Cross at $84K Into a $15.3B Options Expiry With Max Pain at $76,000

BTC and ETH trend confluence, key support/resistance zones, funding and open interest, and the Friday expiry that could pull price toward max pain.

BTC is at $84,064, up 10.3% on the week and 40.5% over 90 days, sitting comfortably above both moving averages that crossed golden on September 8. That's the trend. The problem is timing: daily Stochastic at 85.8 and CCI at 165 say overbought, the 4-hour has flipped to a sell verdict, and OBV is falling on both the daily and weekly chart while price climbs. None of that breaks the uptrend. It does argue for a stall before the next leg, and Friday's $15.32B options expiry with max pain at $76,000 gives that stall a magnet.

The short version

  • Base case: both coins stay above their golden crosses, but daily overbought readings and a neutral-to-sell 4-hour cool the rally before it resumes.
  • BTC's level that matters most: $75,244–$76,000, a five-touch support that also happens to be Friday's max pain on $15.32B of expiring options.
  • ETH's level that matters most: $2,548–$2,563, where the 20-day EMA, a three-touch support and the value area high all sit within $15 of each other.
  • The main risk to the bullish read: weekly OBV is falling on both coins even as price is up double digits, and 24h aggressive futures flow is net negative $918.2M on BTC and $523.1M on ETH.
  • Invalidation: a daily close below $78,351 on BTC or $2,434 on ETH — the point where each daily Supertrend turns down.

Trend and structure

Price is 18.8% above the 200-day average ($70,793) and 12.8% above the 50-day ($74,551), with the golden cross seven days old. The weekly chart carries a summary buy (19 buy signals to 3 sell) and ADX of 27.3 — strong but not yet extreme. The daily is stronger still: ADX 44.5, +DI at 38.9 against -DI at 14.6, a decisively one-sided trend by any reading of that indicator. The 4-hour disagrees on timing, not direction: its ADX is even higher at 46.5 but +DI (29.7) and -DI (22.8) have narrowed, the Parabolic SAR has flipped above price at $87,217, and the summary reads neutral. That's a short-term pause inside a daily and weekly uptrend, not a reversal — the daily Supertrend doesn't flip down until $78,351, well below current price.

The 52-week range is $57,800 to $126,200. BTC is 33.4% off the high, which tells you the longer cycle isn't confirmed one way or the other; this rally has recovered roughly a third of that drawdown.
